Fragment Study I
Sculptural study exploring intimacy, surface and bodily presence.
FRAGMENT is an ongoing sculptural project about the body, memory, intimacy, and form. Through precise body impressions, the works focus not on the complete figure but on selected fragments charged with presence, vulnerability, and identity.
Soren Vale’s practice moves between sculpture, trace, and transformation. Each fragment begins with a real body and becomes an autonomous artwork with its own visual and symbolic language.
FRAGMENT is an ongoing body-based sculpture series exploring the meaning of isolated bodily zones. Rather than presenting the complete figure, the work focuses on selected body zones and intimate fragments that gain new significance through material, light, and context.
The body impression serves as the beginning of an artistic transformation. Proximity becomes form. Form becomes object. Object becomes meaning. Each work moves between intimacy and distance, between personal trace and universal readability. The project often explores body areas associated with intimacy, vulnerability, and identity, allowing these normally private zones to appear as autonomous sculptural forms.

The project explores body zones that are normally private or rarely represented in sculptural form. By isolating these areas, the work transforms intimacy into abstract sculptural presence.
Skin, folds, tension and subtle transitions of the body become landscapes of texture and light. These fragments shift between realism and abstraction.
Fragments taken from the central mass of the body emphasize volume, softness, gravity and balance, creating sculptural forms that feel both personal and universal.
Each fragment is treated as a complete sculptural object. The work does not describe the whole body but allows a single zone to carry the emotional and physical presence of the person.
The process behind FRAGMENT begins with a direct impression taken from a real body fragment. Specialised casting materials allow the surface of the body to be transferred with precision and care.
From this negative form, a cast or further sculptural structure is developed. During this transformation, the original trace is interpreted, reduced, translated, or recontextualised.
The result is not a purely documentary cast, but an autonomous artwork situated between bodily reality, memory, and sculptural form.
Soren Vale is a contemporary artist whose practice focuses on the body, fragmentation, and sculptural transformation. At the centre of his work is the question of how human presence can be transferred into material form.
Through the project FRAGMENT, Vale develops an ongoing series of works based on real body impressions. By reducing the body to selected fragments, the sculptures open new readings of intimacy, identity, and embodied memory.
His works move between documentary trace and abstraction. The resulting objects occupy a space between nearness and distance, body and sculpture, individuality and universal readability.

The body is not only a shell. It is memory, tension, vulnerability, and archive.
A fragment is not a lack. It is a decision. An excerpt can carry more truth than completeness.
FRAGMENT removes the body from habitual readability. What was private becomes form. What was fleeting becomes material. What was ordinary becomes work.
These pieces do not seek perfection. They seek presence. Trace. The quiet intensity of a single detail.
Every impression marks a transition: from touch to surface, from surface to sculpture, from sculpture to meaning.
FRAGMENT understands the human body not as an object of consumption, but as a carrier of dignity, individuality, and expression.
Each work begins with a real person and ends as an autonomous artistic form — more than a copy, a transformation.
FRAGMENT works with voluntary participants who are willing to take part in an artistic casting process. This is not conventional modelling work, but participation in a serious sculptural practice.
Collaboration is based on respect, transparency, and clear prior agreement. Every participation begins with a personal conversation.
Depending on the work, the artistic framework and practical process are discussed in advance with full transparency. The casting session takes place in a calm environment and with great care, forming the basis for an autonomous artwork.
Discretion, informed consent, and clearly defined use are central to the project. Participation requires a personal conversation and a signed model agreement.
With FRAGMENT, Soren Vale develops a body-based sculptural series at the intersection of memory, intimacy, and material reduction. The works approach the body not through narration, but through form, surface, and presence.
The series connects to discourses on embodiment, identity, fragmentation, vulnerability, and transformation. It is suited to exhibitions in contemporary sculpture, conceptual art, and body-related practices.
The works can be shown as singular objects, serial constellations, or installation-based groupings. Their reduced form gives them both spatial presence and strong photographic as well as digital legibility.
Enquiries regarding exhibitions, portfolios, project texts, collaborations, and curatorial conversations are welcome. FRAGMENT is conceived as an ongoing project open to institutional and independent contexts.
